Majalgaon Vikas Pratishthan (MVP), the NGO was started by Mr and Mrs Solanke in January 2004 after they had started their social activities in the area and felt a need for a social organisation.Mrs. Solanke was inspired to follow a social developmental model in her husband’s constituency and bring about betterment in the lives of people with the help of charitable organizations. They started work in Majalgaon, a town in the Beed District in Eastern Maharashtra earlier and today have contributed tremendously towards the empowerment and education of women. Beed , among the more under developed areas of Maharashtra is known for its poverty, drought and cane cutting labourers. The aim of MVP is to eradicate poverty through the empowerment and education of women and girls. This thought was an outcome of the feeling that the area in which she had already started an English medium school was devoid of the basic facilities of health, hygiene and education.
The Jagruti project (the awakening) launched in August 2003 was a program for Self Help Groups (SHGs) for women, mostly farm labourers.Ms Neela Deshmukh played a major role in this project as she has a great deal of experience in this field. This has helped thousands of women to a to their earnings an lead more enlightened lives.
Aadhar (support) was started in June 2005 to sponsor fatherless children ,mostly girls for their health and education.Mr Ram Belavadi was our guide and mentor for this project. He being the founder member of CASP an NGO which today looks after more than 40000 children was able to help us tremendously.
Jagruti Mahila Nagari Patha Sanstha (JMNPS)or a micro credit society was the next project undertaken by Mrs.Solanke to bring about financial independence in households run by women,in May 2005. The thought that money earned by the lady of the house was spent for the household expenses vis-a vis the money earned by the man of the house which was wasted in personal addictions,is the background on which this project was based.
MVP is committed to bring about progress in the lives of the residents in and around Majalgaon through its various activities. Civic and educational needs are equally looked after along with women empowerment and poverty eradication projects.Community health is improved by building toilets .
Mrs. Solanke has also planned an entrepreneur development programme for youngsters and stays committed to the social well being of Majalgaon residents…
MVP has been a ray of light in the previously dark lives of women and children of the area suffering due to unemployment, poor education, insufficient monetary income and non-empowerment.We hope to continue with this work with help from people like you. |
